Another Shooting
The featured photo is sad to see. It is still heartbreaking.

This just came out.
DALLAS, TX — Senator Nathan Johnson issued the following statement concerning his run for the Office of Texas Attorney General:
“Texas stands among the most powerful and important governments in the world. We ought to have a good lawyer. We don’t. I’m running to be Texas’s next Attorney General in order to change that.
Attorney General Ken Paxton has abused the office for his own personal and political interests, and – following orders – to light destructive partisan fires. Under his control, the office has been corrupted and abused and debased, while its powers to do good have been wasted.
I’m sick of it. And I’m betting that the people of Texas are, too. They do not want more of the same.
The way power is held and used is changing dramatically right now, across the country and here at home. Texas needs an attorney general who can meet the moment – with strength, independence, and a genuine commitment to serve the people of Texas instead of partisan ideology. The current Attorney General cannot and will not. His aspiring successors cannot, and would not. I can, and will.
As a senator, I’ve been able to get important things done. Sometimes by collaborating, sometimes fighting, sometimes both.
Seeing Texas’s worst-in-the-nation uninsured rate, I became the state’s leading voice on Medicaid expansion. When the Legislature wouldn’t act, I reformed the Texas marketplace to enable hundreds of thousands of Texans to buy private health insurance. After Winter Storm Uri, I played a central role in fortifying the Texas power grid, restructuring energy markets, and preserving our vital renewable energy resources. When the Legislature revisited tax incentives, I made it harder for businesses to take advantage of taxpayers, and promoted opportunity in overlooked communities.
He will be a good candidate.

There was another shooting Sunday night outside of a southeast H-Town bar. I really can’t tell from the local news reports if all 15 injured were gunshot victims. See this from KHOU Channel 11:
Drive-by shooting outside southeast Houston nightclub leaves 2 dead, 15 injured
The shooting happened a little after 11:45 p.m. Sunday. Police say the gunfire came from and car and into a crowd gathered outside the club.
HOUSTON — Two people are dead and 15 others were injured after a drive-by shooting outside a club in southeast Houston late Sunday night.
One of the two people killed was Paul “Junebug” Stevens, the club’s owner and a well-known barber, friends and family told KHOU 11. A 21-year-old woman was also fatally shot.
Police said eight men and boys (ages 52, 21, 19, 19 19, 18, 17 and 17) and seven women and girls (ages 21, 21,19, 18, 18, 18 and 14) were hurt in the shooting, according to a news release Monday afternoon.
Police said the 15 surviving victims were in stable condition, but did not elaborate on their injuries.
According to the Houston Police Department, it happened a little after 11:45 p.m. in the parking lot of a club along Dixie Road near Heffernan Street.
Assistant Chief Adrian Rodriguez said multiple shots were fired from a four-door sedan into a crowd of people waiting to get into the club. Police said Monday it was a black car that fled down Dixie Drive.
That is a lot of folks injured in a shooting. I am surprised it is not getting more headline type news coverage. KPRC Channel 2 covered the shooting. Maybe folks are just getting used to these shootings. Oh, well.

Yep, this is still going on. See this headline from the Chron:
Houston Astros owner Jim Crane and Drayton McLane finally square off in court over failed TV network
Here is the entire read: Jim Crane and Drayton McLane finally in court over failed TV network.
Here is the most interesting part of this story:
Given the high-profile nature of the case, prospective jurors will be asked to fill out a four-page questionnaire that asks, among other things, if they are Major League Baseball or NBA fans or have read about the lawsuit.
They also will be asked if they know or have heard of Crane, McLane, Postolos, former Rockets president Tad Brown, Rockets general manager and several other current and former team and Comcast officials who may be called to testify.
Unlike a criminal case, where a unanimous verdict is required, only 10 or more of the 13 jurors must agree on a verdict.
I guess there are folks in H-Town who do not follow the Astros and Rockets.
The article is a good read with a lot of details. I always wondered why Astros owner Jim Crane feels he got duped. He had a high-powered team helping him on the deal to buy the Astros. They are supposed to be able to figure out the ins and outs. It looks like his team messed up.

Another Donald Trump dupe, or dummy, or chump.
USA Today White House correspondent @joeygarrison tweeted this yesterday:
Trump makes fun of his former Energy secretary, Rick Perry, calling him “not the smartest bulb.”
“You don’t want him on your debate team, let me put it that way. Rick, you’re not going to be on my debate.”
Trump says Perry had him talk to Zelenskyy in the famous call led to his first impeachment.
“I said, ‘Thanks, Rick.’ That was a wonderful suggestion. I just got indicted over your stupid call.'”
That’s what Trump does. He uses folks. 10 years ago, Perry said Trump was a “cancer on conservatism.” Then Perry went on to stick his nose up Trump’s you know what, and now this. This is how Trump treats folks and don’t feel one bit sorry for Perry.
