Danger, Danger

“Lost in Space” was a sci-fi TV series in the 1960s about the Robinson astronaut family that was, well, lost in space. The series featured a robot who would say “danger, danger” and “danger, Will Robinson” and “it does not compute” when sensing a dangerous situation or not understanding certain predicaments in outer space. This pretty much sums up the environment created by RFK, Jr. in the federal government’s dealing with public health challenges. He’s turning the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) into the Centers for Disease, right before our eyes. Hey, that is what America voted for.

The Venice Film Festival is happening, and three new flicks have gotten my attention. “After the Hunt” with Julia Roberts is a #MeToo themed movie that is getting buzz. Julia said in an interview that the movie will have folks having conversations.  “Bugonia” with Emma Stone is about two conspiracy theorists who kidnap a CEO thinking she is an alien. How timely. “Jay Kelly” starring George Clooney is about a movie star going through an identity crisis. Let’s see if Clooney nails it. I am looking forward to watching these flicks.

20 years ago, today, Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Louisiana. The hurricane was responsible for close to 1,400 deaths. Numerous new outlets are running stories about what happened. The two things I will always remember about Katrina was the Astrodome serving as shelter for thousands of misplaced Louisiana residents and “Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job.”
