Abbey Christmas

I find this interesting. It if from CBS:

Democratic U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, of Dallas, told CBS News Texas she has a big decision to make before Thanksgiving: either run for re-election in the 30th Congressional District or run statewide for U.S. Senate.

She discussed the factors it would take for her to jump into the Democratic primary and join State Rep. James Talarico of Austin and former Dallas Congressman Colin Allred.

On Tuesday, Crockett said, “I will tell you that I still have not made up my mind. Everyone thinks that I’m just holding a secret in, but our poll is in the field right now. We are supposed to get that polling back by the end of the week or early next week. I said I would decide by Thanksgiving.”

Crockett said she is going to share her internal polling with Talarico and Allred.

“I’m going to open it up to them because this isn’t about me… It would be really, really, really hard for me now, knowing that my district is still at least in its current configuration and knowing that my district absolutely wants me to continue to represent them wholly; it would be really, really hard,” Crockett said. “But at the end of the day, if the numbers are strong, that I am our best shot, then it’s bigger than my district. It’s bigger than the state of Texas. This is about the country because we know if we can change the Senate map in this country, then that’s where we start to get wins.”

Crockett said she’s not testing the polls for the March 3 but is focusing on the general election next November.

The incumbent Senator, Republican John Cornyn, is facing a tough GOP primary challenge from Attorney General Ken Paxton and U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt, of Houston.

She said that for her to win, she could not count on Republicans crossing over to support her.

“When we ended up with the Trump phenomenon or even when we ended up with the Obama phenomenon, they were able to both bring out people that historically did not vote. I think that’s the only way that we win in Texas is if we have a candidate that can add to the electorate. If the electorate remains the same electorate that we’ve had over the last 30 years, then I think we’re going to end up with the same result,” she said.

I have to agree with her take on how she would win next November.

MAGA would love Cong. Crockett to be leading the Democratic ticket in Texas next year. MAGA has a thing with strong, vocal African American women. They think that will turn off Texas voters. Stay tuned as Thanksgiving Day is just a few days away.

The Chron hard copy has a piece today on Cong. Crockett being in H-Town this past weekend and campaigning for Christian Menefee.

The Trib just posted this:

Just last year, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott joined a bipartisan chorus of governors in denouncing a Biden administration plan they said would strip states of powers guaranteed to them under federal law.

The plan would have transferred Air National Guard units from six states to the U.S. Space Force, the newly created military branch, stoking concerns about federal overreach and the erosion of governors’ control over their own guard forces. Texas wasn’t among the affected states, but Abbott made his opposition unmistakable in an open letter to the president.

He called the plan an “intolerable threat that would set a “dangerous precedent.”

“I strongly oppose any attempt to sideline governors when it comes to their respective National Guards,” he wrote.

A year later, Abbott helped Donald Trump do just that. He said that he “fully authorized” the president’s plan to send Texas National Guard members to Illinois and Oregon to protect federal law enforcement personnel who are executing immigration laws. Those states’ governors vigorously objected, saying such action was an unnecessary escalation that interfered with state sovereignty.

Here is the entire read: Abbott embraces Trump’s views of presidential power despite support for states’ rights – The Texas Tribune.

I am glad to see the Trib write what some of us have already said. That Abbott is Trump’s punkarse pure and simple. Don’t forget the racist mid-decade redistricting gerrymander that Trump ordered and Abbott called a special session.

Cong. Marjorie Taylor Greene is the latest MAGA dumbarse to find out that loyalty and Trump are a one-way street. What a moron.

In the birthdays section of today’s Chron hard copy, the Chron posted that former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue is 85 today. Commissioner Tagliabue left us a little over two weeks ago. Oh, well.

‘Tis the season. The featured photo is part of my Beatles Christmas gear – an Abbey Christmas, if you will. It is Thanksgiving Day week, so I got all my Christmas gear out. The Hallmark Channel has been showing Christmas flicks for about a month. SiriusXM has their Christmas tunes channels up. The Chron has a story today on where to go see the Christmas lights in the H-Town area including Daikin Park that I need to check out.
