Buyer’s Remorse
The Chron E-Board pretty much admitted that they goofed big time when they endorsed Alexandra Mealer for Harris County Judge. A classic case of buyer’s remorse. Dummies.
This is what was posted online yesterday from the Chron E-Board. First the headline here:
Editorial: Mealer, return your big donations from far right megadonors
Here is how the E-Board take starts:
Why do two West Texas oil billionaires — Christian nationalists waging war against secular public schools — care who becomes the next chief executive of Harris County, hundreds of miles from their homes?
And this:
One item that leaps out from Mealer’s reports is the pair of $100,000 donations from the Defend Texas Liberty Political Action Committee. This PAC is funded almost entirely by Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks, who made their fortunes in oil exploration and fracking and have donated lavishly to far-right candidates for the Texas Legislature and statewide offices.
And this:
On its face, the donation from the Defend Texas Liberty PAC is puzzling. The Harris County judge has no authority over the causes that have animated Dunn and Wilks: promoting vouchers that would provide state funding for private or religious school fees, outlawing abortion and resisting expanded recognition and rights for LGBTQ Texans.
And this:
And Mealer’s acceptance of the donations seems at odds with her stated commitment to sideline partisan politics in county government, where it’s become more prominent during Hidalgo’s tenure.
And finally, this:
Mealer should return the money she received from the Defend Texas Liberty PAC, if only to signal her commitment to restoring good governance unbeholden to special interests and menacing, unholy alliances.
Commentary said this in response to the Chron endorsing Mealer last month.
The Chron E-Board was played for sure.
Commentary was right. The Chron E-Board was played for sure. Dummies.

The best line I saw yesterday on Mattress Mack going F-Bomb in Philly was this is how Mattress Mack reacted when I told him I voted for Judge Lina Hidalgo.
Some Democrats are urging folks not to shop at Gallery Furniture. I don’t have a problem with that. Mack knows what he is doing. He knows the political climate these days and he has made his choice, err bed.

The World Series is coming back to H-Town and The Yard this Saturday.
Commentary figured Cristian Javier would give us a chance. He gave us an outstanding performance along with Bryan Abreu, Rafael Montero, and Ryan Pressly.
Christian Vázquez caught Cristian Javier for six.
A World Series no-no. Not since 1956 when Don Larsen pitched a perfecto against the Dodgers.
Christian Vázquez and Hall of Fame great Yogi Berra are the only catchers to catch World Series no-nos.
Wow!
It is now 2 out of 3.
