Worth It

Folks are saying that the President Joe Biden administration and Democrats got caught flatfooted when Roe was overturned. The Supreme Court memo on Roe was leaked earlier in the year and we didn’t have a Plan B in place.

We are watching the January 6 Committee hearings. The committee is putting out the evidence that Donald Trump was doing everything he could to throw out the legal results of the election.  It is not even debatable.

Folks familiar with federal law are saying Trump needs to be charged.  If Trump is indicted on federal crimes, we need to be prepared and not get caught flatfooted – again.

There will be violent responses throughout the country from his hardcore supporters.  They have seen Trump get away with his unethical and criminal behavior and that is who they are these days.

We saw what they did on January 6.

Local, state, and national elected leaders and law enforcement officials need to start talking to each other and have a plan in place to deal with the violent response when Trump is indicted. It will get very ugly. We can’t afford to get caught flatfooted on this one.

Trump is the most destructive force we have ever encountered in our democracy in my lifetime. What we will have to endure once he is indicted will be worth it.

Commentary is good with this from the Chron:

Harris County leaders on Tuesday selected the former head of Washington, D.C.’s board of elections to oversee voter registration and elections.

Clifford Tatum would become the county’s second chosen elections administrator since the office was created in 2020. His selection by the five-member Harris County Elections Commission was unanimous.

Tatum served as general counsel for the U.S. Election Assistance Commission from 2015 to 2019. He is the former executive director of the District of Columbia Board of Elections, and served as the interim director for the Georgia State Elections Division. Tatum is a graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

I am comforted by it being a unanimous vote.
