The Chron has a story on political polling. Polling is not as accurate as it once was according to the story. Here is from the Chron:
Political polling was already in bad shape, but recent elections in Texas have exposed even deeper problems that pollsters have been struggling with for years, producing results that have been almost comically far from actual at election outcomes.
The state’s large Hispanic population, booming voter registrations and a high number of hidden Trump voters have combined to push pollsters toward less and less certain guesses at what true samples of Texas voters look like.
Long-time Texas Republican strategist Karl Rove summed it up earlier this month during an event in Dallas.
“Polling is broken, let’s just be honest about it,” he said. “We used to endow it with scientific precision that it probably had some of, but now it’s a crapshoot.”

In 2020, a University of Texas at Tyler poll just days before the election had Joe Biden winning the state over Trump by 3 percentage points while others like Quinnipiac University in Connecticut and Emerson College in Boston had the race tied, even though Trump won by almost 6 points. Two years earlier, there were at least 14 major polls of Texas voters during the big U.S. Senate race in the final four months, but only two ever showed the race within the 3 percentage points it finished at.
It was even worse in the 2018 Texas governor race where the final seven polls in October had Gov. Greg Abbott up by an average of 18 points. One poll by Dixie Strategies had him up 26 points when the race really finished at 13 points.
