John Lennon

42 years ago, this evening, John Lennon was murdered in New York City. Howard Cosell announced the breaking news during a Monday Night Football telecast on ABC. John Lennon was 40 years old. I will never forget.

President Biden is certainly on a roll.

Commentary misses the days when the candidates who got the most votes were considered the winners of an election. Those days are long gone. See this from the Chron:

Republican judicial candidate Erin Lunceford filed a petition Wednesday seeking a new election in Harris County’s 189th judicial district court race after losing by 2,743 votes out of more than 1 million ballots cast.

You lost. Go home. This is today’s GOP, folks.  Elections only count if you win.

If you like Christmas tunes and have the SiriusXM app, you can listen to Billboard’s Top 112 Christmas tunes. You will likely disagree with the rankings. They have Wham’s “Last Christmas” at number 8. Ok.

Justin Verlander put this out last night:

“To Houston: Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so positive, generous, and accepting. You made me and my family feel at home and I’ll always be grateful for that. We have all shared lots of amazing moments together since the trade in 2017. My family and I will forever cherish our time in the (H) and the memories created that will last a lifetime!”

AL MVP Aaron Judge will remain a Yankee for a whopping $360 million for 9 years. Oh, well.

Chron sports columnist Brian T. Smith today pokes fun at all the money the Yankees are spending. Here is how the column starts:

The Astros do not possess a $360 million contract.

They are Major League Baseball’s reigning world champions.

The Astros have not promised to pay a pitcher $324 million.

They have appeared in six consecutive American League Championship Series and back-to-back World Series.

The Astros are not paying an often-injured outfielder/designated hitter at least $25 million a year through 2027.

The Yankees are, and the annual losers in the Bronx have never appeared so desperate.

Remember when Yanks general manager Brian Cashman whined about the pinstripes’ inability to win another World Series because of what the mean ol’ Astros did in 2017 and part of the ’18 season?

Go check out the column here: Smith: Gulf between champion Astros, Yankees never more clear this offseason (houstonchronicle.com).
