Impeachment

It’s impeachment time. We all know that suspended arsehole AG Ken Paxton is a worthless POS crook. He also cheats on his wife.  If you have read the news accounts in the Trib or Chron on the impeachment details the last three months, you know what I am talking about.

I am really not that familiar with the proceeding rules, but I am guessing there will be motions to dismiss the impeachment charges right off the bat.  If there are votes on the motions, it could tell us where this all might be headed.

Commentary is not going to presume that all 12 Democratic senators will vote to convict. I will let others make those presumptions.

This could very well be a GOP intraparty spectacle. Polling shows that only 20% or so of GOP voters in Texas support impeachment. The pro-Paxton PAC is going to spend serious dough trying to pressure and threaten GOP senators to vote to acquit.

We are operating in a political environment created by Donald Trump where GOP voters don’t have a problem with their elected leaders being crooks. GOP voters continue to staunchly support Trump after four indictments. They twice reelected Paxton while under indictment.

For those rooting for a conviction, there is hope. Three months ago, 60 GOP Texas House members voted to impeach including GOP Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan.

The trial’s start this morning is getting full blown media attention. We will see if coverage tapers off significantly in the coming days and weeks.

When it is all said and done, don’t be surprised if Paxton is acquitted.

Hall of Fame great Bill Mazeroski of the Pirates is 87 today. The second baseman’s bottom of the ninth walk-off dinger in Game 7 against the Yankees to win the 1960 World Series at Forbes Field is one of the greatest moments in MLB history. Happy Birthday, Bill Mazeroski!

That was a great game yesterday as the Astros won the Silver Boot. We were down 3 zip and came back to win 13-6. Double back-to-backs by Mauricio Dubon and Jose Altuve. A Yainer Diaz jack. What a win. It was fun to watch.
