Great Job, Dusty!

We had another mass shooting last night. This time in Maine. I went to bed with the shooter on the run. I woke up this morning with the shooter still on the run.

Let’s see. The GOP controlled Texas House of Representatives passed a racist immigration bill yesterday.

The U.S. House elected a MAGA House Speaker who tried to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

No wonder U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney is saying he doesn’t recognize the 2023 GOP.

I am going to go out on a limb and say this. I have been working on City of H-Town elections for around 45 years. I don’t think I have ever seen an H-Town open mayoral race where a candidate in the first round has taken so much incoming. In an open race, the attacks are usually launched in the runoff. Former H-Town City Council member Jack Christie, Gilbert Garcia, Cong. Sheila Jackson Lee, and Lee Kaplan all have paid ads or mail or both attacking State Sen. John Whitmire.

It is kind of unprecedented.

Today is State Sen. Carol Alvarado’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Carol! She is one of my best friends and client.

Dusty Baker is retiring today. He will make it official at 11 am. He is my all-time favorite Astros manager. He was only here for four years. He managed us to a World Series title, two World Series appearances, and four consecutive ALCSs.

He was accessible to the media, honest, candid, and to the point. The players loved playing for him, and the fans loved him.

He had a sense of humor. He didn’t take himself too seriously. He had his players’ backs.

He arrived right after we were penalized for the cheating scandal, and his first year he managed us during the pandemic.

He was all class and a gentleman. He respected the players, the fans, and the game of baseball.  He is truly one of a kind.  I am glad he was here for four years.

I will miss his presence in the dugout.

The featured photo is my favorite bobblehead.

Great job, Dusty!
