Remember the Alamo!
Commentary respects election results. It is the voters having their say. You have to have winners and losers but give credit to the losers for getting into the game. So, they are really not losers, they are just not winners.
Let me get this off my chest. I am writing this at 9:15 am on Wednesday morning and we still don’t have complete results in Harris County by Harrisvotes.com. Come on! 535 of 545 voting centers reporting. Where the heck are the other 10 voting centers? They need to do a better job. We still don’t know if the Texas House District 146 race in the Democratic Party Primary is settled.
Oh, well.
Let me say I am disappointed in the outcome in the race between Cong. Sheila Jackson Lee and former H-Town City Council Member Amanda Edwards. It was a pretty decisive win for Cong. Jackson Lee. It looks like my precinct was Amanda’s best precinct. As of this morning, Amanda is getting a whopping 402 votes in my precinct.
State Rep. Jarvis Johnson and Molly Cook are headed into a runoff in the State Senate District 15 race. This one will be interesting.
For what it is worth, according to the Texas Secretary of State website, Michelle Bonton, Molly Cook, State Rep. Jarvis Johnson, and Todd Litton were the only ones to file for the May 4 State Senate District 15 Special Election to fill the vacancy and serve out the rest of the term that ends on December 31 of this year. Looks like only Jarvis and Molly will be campaigning.
In House District 146, challenger Laura Ashley Simmons is leading incumbent State Rep. Shawn Thierry, 49.5% to 44.4%. It looks like this one is headed to a runoff.
Both Molly and Laura have been endorsed by Annie’s List.
Sean Teare clobbered Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg. It was a severe beating. 75% to 25%. That’s a massacre.
A few incumbent male Democratic state district judges lost their benches. I am talking about Judges Mike Engelhart, R.K. Sandill, and Robert Schaffer. My friend Judge Kyle Carter survived.
Judge Julia Maldonado also lost.
It is what it is. There is no better way to select our judgeships.
Annette Ramirez has a commanding lead over Desiree Broadnax 40.7% to 17.5% for Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector.
In the U.S. Senate race, Cong. Colin Allred is our guy to take on Cancun Cruz. I am all in on this.
On the GOP side, there are bodies all over the place.
Arsehole Gov. Greg Abbott had a good night. He knocked off a few GOP state reps who opposed his voucher plan by lying about their record on border security. Got it?
The three GOP Court of Criminal Appeals Court Judges who were targeted by crooked GOP AG Ken Paxton lost. They all happen to be female. Here in H-Town, ads were run on their behalf attacking President Joe Biden’s border policy. Biden wasn’t running against these judges.
Texas GOP House Speaker Dade Phelan is in a runoff and trailing his challenger. He is fighting for his political life.
Finally, former South Carolina Governor and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley is ending her bid for the GOP nomination for president.
