Beto Balls

Commentary often uses the hashtag #AbbottFailedTexasAgain in my tweets. The hashtag can truly be applied to the kids and teachers who were executed in Uvalde, Texas a couple of days ago.  The security system in place that had been touted by Gov. Greg Abbott and his fellow GOP cronies failed the kids and teachers.

There are now so many questions about the police response that need to be answered and explained.

Count me in as one of those to applaud Beto O’Rourke for confronting the cowardice on display yesterday. There they were. All of them. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, GOP House Speaker Dade Phelan, crook Ken Paxton, and U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz – all fuc_ing cowards, acting like they were there to support he community.  The policies that they have supported clearly failed the Uvalde community.

I was glad to see Beto step up and call out this cowardice. I only wish he had let some of us know ahead of time. I might have driven out there to stand by him.

That’s the kind of leadership Texas needs at this moment.

In looking at the video footage of Beto, law enforcement officers present just stood there. It is like they knew Beto was right, and they wanted him to have his say.

The NRA is convening at the George R. Brown Convention Center this weekend. Some local folks want the City of H-Town to cancel the event.

The bigger question is why we are hosting the NRA in the first place.  Did we have the option of turning them down when they requested to use the facility.

I just saw this online:

Singer Don McLean said he will no longer perform at the National Rifle Association’s convention in Houston, Texas, after a mass shooting in a Texas elementary school.

The Tuesday mass shooting at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas left at least 19 children and two teachers dead. The suspected gunman was killed at the scene by law enforcement officers. The NRA convention is set to be held from May 27 to May 29.

A representative for McLean said in a statement to the Portland Press Herald on Wednesday: “In light of the recent events in Texas, I have decided it would be disrespectful and hurtful for me to perform for the NRA at their convention in Houston this week.

Wow. Why would he even agree to perform at an NRA gathering in the first place.

I made a last-minute decision to go to The Yard last night and we won 2-1.
