Iran freed five Americans yesterday. The names of three were publicized. The other two asked for their identities not to be made public. Huh?
This just came out from the Chron:
Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg has launched criminal investigations against county officials she was publicly feuding with at least four times since she took office in 2017, the Chronicle has found. Taxpayers have covered nearly $1 million in legal bills for public employees who were pulled into the investigations but never charged with crimes.
Ogg’s actions against the county officials and their staffers, with whom she’s also clashed on issues like bail reform and budget requests, are especially striking because they’re with members of her own party. Ogg, a Democrat, is facing a tough re-election fight next year against a well-financed opponent. She declined to be interviewed for this story.
In two instances, Ogg secured criminal charges. Last year, three former aides of Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo were indicted for allegedly steering an $11 million contract to one vendor. They have denied the charges and no trial date has been set.
Darrell Jordan, a county court-at-law judge who presides over misdemeanor cases, was also indicted last year for wrongfully jailing someone who disrupted his court, but that case was dismissed days later. “I would tell people, don’t cross her, plain and simple,” said Jordan, who denied the allegations. “If you piss her off, you’re going to a grand jury and you may or may not be indicted.”
Here is the entire Chron read: Harris County DA Kim Ogg repeatedly aimed her power at local officials (houstonchronicle.com).
All I can say is, I am glad I get along with Kim.
GOP Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has requested a full audit of impeachment expenditures. Commentary does not have a problem with that. I want to know how much Rusty Hardin, Dick DeGuerin and all the other lawyers pocketed.
This from the Tribune:
“The goal,” Patrick wrote, “is to determine the absolute total cost of the state of preparing for and conducting this trial from the beginning through its conclusion. This must detail all expenses” including those for investigators, travel, food and lodging.
What do you think? Four or five star hotels?
Let’s see. Mayoral candidate Lee Kaplan has an ad on cable TV hitting Cong. Sheila Jackson Lee and State Sen. John Whitmire. Cong. Sheila Jackson Lee has digital ads attacking Sen. Whitmire. Gilbert Garcia has a Spanish language ad hitting Cong. Jackson Lee and Sen. Whitmire. Sen. Whitmire has ads introducing himself to voters. Got it?
The featured photo is what the Sen. Whitmire campaign is about.
#SpingerDinger is 34 today. Happy Birthday, George!
We gave up a top of the ninth inning three run dinger and lost. So frustrating. That is all I will say about it.
