Choco Milk

Commentary knows a little about politics. I know something about campaigns.

Let’s see. Donald Trump got 51% last night at the Iowa GOP caucuses.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis got 21.2% and says he got his ticket punched. Huh?

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley got 19.1% and now says it is a two-person race. Huh?

Trump got 51% with 91 charges in 4 indictments. That’s your GOP, folks.

Commentary is ok going up against a crook with 91 charges in 4 indictments this November.

The Frumencio Reyes, Jr. Chron E-Board take got some letters-to-the-editor today from readers. Here they are:

Regarding “The Houston voting rights icon you’ve likely never heard of (Opinion),” (Jan. 11): Thank you so much for the excellent article on Frumencio Reyes Jr. and for reminding us of the importance of his dedicated life and work for the good of Houston and its people. I also appreciated the background information on how he was slighted by the local media and leaders in Houston.

This is personal to me, to learn of Mr. Reyes’ mark on the people and politics in the Houston area.

My dad made his mark as a hell-raiser in Los Angeles and lived his life for others like Mr. Reyes. I was recently going over his notes and the contributions he made in the communities where he lived and dedicated his life. We need more of these hell-raisers who bring about change and progress for the everyday citizens they care about.

I extend my personal sentiments of sympathy to Mrs. Janie Reyes and the family, and to all who knew and loved Mr. Reyes.

Maris P. Helfrich, Galveston

Thank you for the beautiful story on Frumencio Reyes. He earned it.

José A. Barrera, Houston

This piece, with the accounting of the life and work of Frumencio Reyes Jr., was appreciated, well-written and served him well.

I had been seriously considering downgrading from my $29.99 full digital access subscription due to mounting reasons. I am putting that on the back burner now. The Houston Chronicle has just redeemed itself to a degree.

Additional and constant minority representation, along with basic knowledge of Houston and our history, is encouraged for a city as diverse as ours.

Let’s try to view Houston as having a few minorities, as Hispanics will not be a minority for long. They could already be the majority, for all we know. If not, they soon will be.

Grant Holt, Houston

Nice. Another thanks to Blanca and Judith.

Commentary watched the Emmys last night. I knew a whole lot about the ensemble casts they brought together for the reunion presenters. I don’t know much about all the shows that won last night, except for maybe the talk shows.

I survived the first day of the hard freeze. Everything seems to be intact at my place. I stayed put. The only casualty appears to be no delivery of the hard copy Chron this morning.  I went online to ask them to deliver my paper, but they never do.  I guess I will read the E-Edition.

The featured photo is my Choco Milk container. I had a hot cup of Choco Milk this morning. I first learned of Choco Milk when I went to Mexico to stay with my aunt when I was a kid. It is good stuff.

We play the Ravens on Saturday afternoon. I kind of figured we would get that time slot.  The Packers and 49ers get the prime-time Saturday evening spot. The Lions and Buccaneers play Sunday afternoon. Taylor Swift and the Chiefs will get the prime-time slot on Sunday evening against the Bills. That is not surprising.
