Fourth of July Eve

I have been paying attention to the current debate in Congress. It is obvious that MAGA is not interested in good public policy. They are more interested in pleasing Donald Trump. I am still waiting for a Democratic member of Congress to tell MAGA to “kiss my big, beautiful, butt.”

Commentary said this yesterday:

Diddy or didn’t he. I guess he did on two of the charges and didn’t on the other three. We will know this afternoon if he is released from jail. If he is released, will fellow celebs continue to hang with him. Probably. Come on now. We are in an era where January 6 insurrectionists were pardoned. Anything goes, I guess.

I am thinking that on this July 2, 2025, two days before the Fourth, Diddy will get his freedom.

Well, he is not free, yet.  Some courthouse TV pundits are saying Diddy did okay. I don’t know about that. He is now a convicted felon on transportation to engage in prostitution. I don’t know how that is okay.

I am hearing former San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg might be running for governor. I am okay with that. San Antonio is 64% Latino. He knows how to campaign in the Latino community. I think he would be a very good candidate.

Back in April, I got a notice from the Texas Department of Public Safety that my Texas Driver License was up for renewal this year. They said I could not renew it online because I did so last time. I set up an appointment online for this afternoon at the location on Veterans Memorial. I figure that on this Fourth of July Eve it might not be crowded. It also helps to set up an appointment rather than just showing up without one. I am going to take my passport in case there are ICE agents on hand looking to scoop up Latinos to deport. You never know. The cost for renewal is $33. I will let you know tomorrow how things go.

I forgot to mention. It is July on the Hallmark Channel. That means they are airing their Christmas flicks this month and I am watching when I can.

Okay, since you asked, last night, Dodger Clayton Kershaw became the 20th MLB pitcher to strike out 3,000 batters in a career. How many of the 20 have pitched for the Astros?

Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Roger Clemons, Don Sutton, Justin Verlander, and Curt Schilling. That’s six.

It is hard to disagree with this from Chron Astro beat writer Matt Kawahara:

Ability to navigate absences defines Houston’s season to date. Its most fearsome hitter has not played since May 2. Three-fifths of its season-opening rotation has been felled by injuries. The Astros entered Tuesday, still, with the American League’s second-best record and a six-game lead in their division.

The Astros are a pretty good team. Too bad we don’t have a starter on this year’s AL All Star Team. Maybe they will name Hunter Brown or Framber as the AL All Star starting pitcher.

We won last night and are now 52-34. They wrap their series in Denver this afternoon.
