Playing Dead Astros

Commentary didn’t watch the memorial service for Charlie Kirk yesterday. From what I read on social media, aside from his widow Erika and a couple or so other dignitaries, most speakers sounded like they were at Day 3 and 4 of a MAGA National Convention. One of the main speakers said he hates his opponents. Who in the heck talks like that at a memorial service? Never mind. You certainly know the answer to this softball question.

The Chron hard copy has a front-page story today on cheating, crooked Ken Paxton and here is the headline:

Christian leaders raise scrutiny of Paxton after filing

Here is from the article:

“Our belief is adultery is an attack on marriage and that’s something we take very seriously,” said Jonathan Saenz, president of Texas Values Action, which has long backed Paxton, but withdrew its endorsement after he refused to meet with the group to discuss the divorce. “I’ve heard people talking about this, saying they have pause on whether they’re going to vote for him when election day comes.”

This reeks of hypocrisy. Donald Trump.

This is also from the same article:

White Christians in Texas voted overwhelmingly for President Donald Trump in last year’s election in spite of his history of divorce and infidelity.

“In early times, the recent divorce and messiness around it would indeed harm his relationship with Christians. But in the Trump era, that is not occurring,” said Michael Emerson, a religion and public policy fellow at Rice University’s Baker Institute. “Rather, what matters is that he is seen in his public role as a defender of Christians. That is what now seems to matter, and what happens in his private life is minimized.”

Yep. This is more like it.

Here is the entire god-fearing article: Ken Paxton takes heat from Christian leaders after divorce.

I said last week I would not be watching the Texans on CBS. I didn’t. The Texans could very well be out of the playoff picture before the Astros.

This past weekend at Daikin Park was excruciatingly painful. We got outscored 17-7 and were swept by the Mariners, all but eliminating us from claiming the AL West title. Drats! The Astros looked more like they were playing dead rather than playing baseball. Maybe they should not have given away the cabecita in the featured photo on Saturday evening. Our Wild Card hopes are still very much alive with six games to go.

Our final six are roadies, three in Sacramento and three in Anaheim. The other Wild Card contenders, the Guardians and Tigers, also have six games remaining. The Guardians host the Tigers for three, then close out the regular season hosting the Rangers. The Tigers play their final three at Fenway. Got it.

I have to hand it to the Astros organization for fully embracing our Latino heritage this past weekend with the giveaways, the pre-game festival on Saturday, Mariachis singing our National Anthem, and the way Daikin Park was spruced up. Bravo!

We have today off to celebrate the first day of Fall at a robust 93 degrees for your high temperature in H-Town.
