Yalloween
Halloween is a month away. Commentary always hands out chocolate goodies. A couple of years ago I got introduced to Yalloween, as in the featured photo. It is a group that gets needy kids Halloween costumes for trick or treat events. I never knew an organization existed for this purpose. Some of the kids who come to my door on Halloween evening skimp when it comes to Halloween gear. Yalloween works with organizations like HAWC to get kids outfitted. This is a good and worthy mission.

Commentary has been working in politics forever. In the last decade or so, it has been interesting to see GOP leaders morph into MAGA and in some instance it has been a self-humiliating process. See this from today’s Chron:
Earlier this month, young conservatives packed into a hotel outside of Houston to hear from some of the state’s leading GOP voices at the Texas Youth Summit, including Attorney General Ken Paxton, Gov. Greg Abbott, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt.
Conspicuously missing from the speakers lineup was U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, who is in the primary fight of his career against Paxton.
Christian Collins, who organized the youth summit, said he hadn’t thought to invite Cornyn – not out of malice but because the two don’t have the same relationship as he does with Paxton, whom he called “more of a MAGA guy.”
“Cornyn comes from a different era, a different time,” Collins said. “He’s not in tune with where we are now.”
The episode highlights a challenge for Cornyn, who is working to shed his bipartisan reputation in hopes of convincing Texas’s highly conservative primary voters to back him for another term.
Here is the entire Chron read: After years of easy victories, can John Cornyn find his campaign mojo?.
Cornyn’s allies have been running ads for the past couple of months attacking crooked, cheating Ken Paxton and Paxton is still standing. My take is MAGA isn’t ready to accept Cornyn. Cornyn is doing everything in his power to come off like a MAGA charter club member, but he is not. Cornyn is a fraud and phony.

MAGA is not happy Bad Bunny has been selected to perform at halftime at the Super Bowl. Bad Bunny has been a critic of Donald Trump’s immigration moves. Now see this from the Chron:
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is weighing in on next year’s Super Bowl halftime show after the National Football League announced Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny would be headlining at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
“I vote we get @Jason_Aldean and bring some patriotism into a country that desperately needs it,” Paxton posted on X after sharing a post by conservative influencer Robby Starbuck, which called for people to reach out to the NFL commissioners regarding the decision to have the rapper and singer’s upcoming performance.
The announcement of Bad Bunny’s performance came during halftime of Sunday night’s game between the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys, according to NPR. Other conservative influencers, such as Benny Johnson, took to X to criticize the NFL’s decision.
“The NFL is self-destructing year after year,” Johnson wrote in his post on X, noting the superstar’s views on Trump, ICE, and criticizing the artist for not having songs in English.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, called his upcoming performance a feeling that goes beyond himself.
“It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown,” the bilingual artist said in a written statement released by the NFL. “This is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL (Go and tell your grandmother that we’ll be the Super Bowl Halftime Show).”
It’s unclear if the NFL, Apple or Roc Nation would backpedal their decision before Super Bowl 60 on Feb. 8.
There may be some MAGA folks who will boycott the Super Bowl, but Bad Bunny will bring in a ton of new viewers, offsetting the MAGA boycotters.

It turns out, in 2025, the Astros were not #BuiltForThis. I am sure the front office is already at work on the 2026 team hashtag. I think we can pretty much rule out #RebuiltForThis. It is going to be a long offseason.
