Now 75
Back in April, a car veered into my lane without looking and banged up my ride a bit. We pulled over and it was a young lady who was apologetic. She was at fault for not looking over as she changed lanes. We took pictures of the car damage and exchanged driver’s license and car insurance information. I didn’t bother to call the cops or file a police report. I was able to drive my car, so I left. Her car suffered more damage, so she was going to wait for her dad. It was in the middle of the day, and we were at a CVS parking lot, her dad was nearby, so I felt comfortable leaving.
When I got home, I called my car insurance company and filed a claim. A few days later I took my car to the body shop. The estimate was close to $3,000 in damage repairs and I ended up paying a $1,000 deductible that my insurance company said I would recoup once they collected damages from the young girl’s insurance company.
A couple of weeks later I was informed by my insurance company that the other party was contesting my claim saying they were not at fault. Then this past summer I got a letter from my insurance company letting me know that the case was closed. I had to eat the $1,000 deductible. I learned a lesson. Next time I would call the cops or at least file a police report.
Yesterday, I received a letter from my car insurance company. Thinking it was my annual premium invoice, it turns out it was a $1,000 reimbursement check for my April deductible cost.
I will be calling my insurance company next week to get details of what happened.

When I turned 70 a few years ago, I was still dealing with the last few months of my Dad’s life. At about that time, I received a summons for jury duty. I used the 70 or older exemption to get out of jury service. I really didn’t have the time back then. I have had my share of jury duty including a two-day civil trial and a municipal court trial.
Yesterday, I got a jury summons and looked to opt out again using the age exemption. I looked at the exemption list on the summons, and it now says 75 years or older. Apparently, the legislature changed the age exemption a couple of years ago from 70 to 75. What the heck, it is now 75. Sigh.

I have one quick trip to the grocery store this morning, then my traditional Christmas Eve gatherings this evening. Stay safe. The featured photo doesn’t need an explanation.
