DNC
I have to give major credit to the folks running the Democratic National Convention (DNC.) Last night’s ceremonial roll call was pretty cool. See the featured photo of the Texas delegation. It was very entertaining. Nice job.
Commentary said this yesterday:
The GOP hates it. Commentary is talking about last night’s lovefest at the Democratic National Convention. The GOP can’t handle the love, appreciation, and affection that was on display last night in Chicago. The GOP isn’t capable these days of creating the vibe that we saw yesterday in Chicago.
Ditto last night.
I just wanted to reach into the flat screen and hug Ella Emhoff and her reaction to her father’s speech.
The Obamas destroyed Donald Trump. This line from the former First Lady was a doozy:
“Who’s going to tell him (Trump) that the job he’s currently seeking might just be one of those ‘Black jobs’?”
Most interesting tidbit I learned last night. Vice President Kamala Harris will officially accept her party’s nomination for president on the 10th anniversary of her wedding to Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff. Way too cool.

When Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo spoke at the DNC Monday night, what she was wearing caught my eye. National political conventions are usually not red-carpet garb events. Political conventions are more campaign gear gatherings. See this from the Chron:
A sea of blue suits, dresses and ties in safe sartorial diplomacy was on display on the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday.
But when Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo took to the stage to speak in an off-the-shoulder, purple-cobalt blue look by Houston designer Chloe Dao and neon lime-green painted nails, she surprisingly gave the Democratic party an infusion of bold, youthful style.
Now, those words aren’t typically used to describe either political party when it comes to fashion, but this is new territory for the DNC with presidential nominee Kamala Harris. If you’re going to use a dress code to make a statement, this would be the time.
Hidalgo, also, isn’t known for flashiness or lime-green nails for that matter. But this is the woman who posted on Instagram that she was headed to Chicago with her fiancé and her cat named Meiloorun, after the melon fruit. Perhaps it wasa dig aimed at Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance’s criticism of prominent Democrats as “childless cat ladies.”
It’s fitting that Hidalgo would tap Dao to create her look. Dao, one of Houston’s leading fashion designers and winner of “Project Runway” Season 2, made Hidalgo’s outfit only a few days before she headed to Chicago. Hidalgo did a dress rehearsal by video to show Dao. The designer even suggested that Hidalgo straighten her hair, which she had done in Chicago.
“It’s a look of authority and presence. She loved it and felt powerful and polished,” Dao said.
The women originally contemplated blue or red but settled on a bluish-purple hue. The outfit is part of Dao’s new collection for professional women that exudes female power and sophistication. Perfect timing.
I will say this. Former First Lady Michelle Obama was also dressed sharply last night. So was last night’s DNC host Ana Navarro-Cárdenas.
I am okay with how they dress at the DNC. It is on national TV if you know what I mean.

We lost last night but still have a five-game lead in the AL West. Justin Verlander returns to start this afternoon’s series finale against the Red Sox.
