On METRO

This came out in the Chron a couple of days ago:

Eliz Markowitz plans to challenge Republican incumbent Matt Morgan in the November 2026 race for Texas House District 26, which represents  a swath from Rosenberg to Katy in Fort Bend County.

Markowitz has run before. Donald Trump carried this district with 56% of the vote in 2024. If she gets some dough, maybe she can flip the district.

I get why some folks like to crack on Houston METRO. The Red Line Rail signal stuff. Not proceeding with certain proposed routes. METRO sent me this today:

With the holiday season upon us, we want to take a moment to say thank you. We’re grateful to have you as a customer and proud to be part of your journey.

If your holiday plans include a trip to Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), METRO makes it easy with the 500 IAH Downtown Direct. It provides nonstop service between George R. Brown Convention Center and IAH for just $4.50

Learn more by visiting www.RideMETRO.org/500.

That’s a good service if you don’t want to take an Uber to IAH or try to find a parking spot up there.

METRO also doesn’t get credit for building better shelters along bus routes across the service area.

“Today” had a feature this morning on an upcoming Hallmark Channel Christmas flick “Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story.” Last year, they aired a Christmas flick with the Chiefs. I wonder when the Texans will get a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie. A Texans love story would probably include a visit to the Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market, ICE LAND at Moody Gardens, and ice skating at the Galleria or Discovery Green. Plus, they would have to fit in some tamale eating. Just saying.

My Chron subscription went up by $7. I now shell out $116 every 4 weeks. That’s the price of supporting local journalism. Oh, well.

From MLB.com:

HOUSTON — Hunter Brown’s emergence as the ace of the Astros’ pitching staff in 2025 not only earned him a spot as a finalist for the American League Cy Young Award, but he was named to the All-MLB Second Team presented by MGM Rewards on Thursday in Las Vegas.

The All-MLB Team was introduced in 2019 to honor players’ full-season contributions, given that All-Star selections are based on first-half performance. Fans were asked to vote at MLB.com to help choose first- and second-team selections at each position (including three outfielders, a DH, five starting pitchers and two relievers) among this year’s nominees.

Have a safe weekend.
