Chron Opinion Editor Evan Mintz has a take today in the hard copy and here is the headline:

Worried about antisemitism at Houston City Hall? Look statewide, instead. | Opinion

Here is from the take:

Over in the Democratic primary for the 35th Congressional District, which stretches from San Antonio to Austin, frontrunner Maureen Galindo has been condemned by the Jewish Federation of San Antonio — and Democratic Senate candidate Rep. James Talarico — for a panoply of brazenly antisemitic comments. Galindo told Texas Public Radio that she was “against Zionist Jews,” accused Jews of controlling media and banks, and said that her opponent in the primary runoff, Johnny Garcia, could be tried for treason because he supports Israel.

Here is the entire Mintz take: Texas politics has a bigger antisemitism problem than District C.

The Chron E-Board also endorsed Johnny Garcia over Maureen Galindo in the CD 35 Democratic Party primary. Here is from the Chron endorsement:

Republicans need to get the message, too. The only pro-Galindo spending in the race seems to come from Lead Left PAC, which Punchbowl News reports is tied to the GOP. All may be fair in love and war, and politics may be war by other means, but the desire to win is no excuse to promulgate hatred.

Evan should have mentioned the Lead Left PAC role in the Galindo campaign in his piece today. Stop being lazy or convenient. Oh, well.

Over the last few weeks, I said this about Jenna Bush Hager:

Jenna Bush Hager is probably the ultimate nepo baby and she probably doesn’t mind being described that way.

And this:

I would go on to say that the most famous Bush these days is Jenna Bush Hager. She is part of the “Today” show. She is co-host of the hour long “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.” She is an author and has her Read with Jenna book club and promotes a featured book every month. She is an advocate for reading books.

Jenna nailed it a few days ago on the issue of book banning. See this from “Today”:

Don’t get Jenna Bush Hager started about the increasing number of books being banned from libraries.

The TODAY co-host and creator of the Read With Jenna book club had a passionate reaction to book banning on the May 20 episode of the “Las Culturistas” podcast with Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, which she expanded upon on TODAY.

In a recurring segment on the show called “I Don’t Think So, Honey,” guests are encouraged to give a short rant about a topic they are passionate about. Jenna chose the skyrocketing amount of attempts to have books banned and removed from school and public libraries.

“I don’t think so, honey. Why are we banning all these books, y’all?” Jenna said on the show. “Why are we banning the ‘Wicked’ book? Why are we banning ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’?

“I posted a picture of my daughter reading ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’, and you know what people said to me? They shamed me,” Jenna continued. “I don’t think so, honey.”

Way to go, Jenna.

That is my Mom in the featured photo. She is beautiful, don’t you think? Alicia Torres Campos was born on May 21, 1926. She would have been 100 today. She left us close to 9 years ago. I miss her. I miss the conversations I had with her in her later years. She always had interesting takes. Happy Birthday up there, Mom!

_____

My Mom was also a huge Astros fan. I am pretty sure she would have takes on our 20-31 start this season.

We lost yesterday. Well, at least we have today off.
