Juneteenth

Amanda Edwards announced this morning that she is dropping out of the race for mayor and running for congress in the 18th congressional district.

_____

Former Texas State Rep. Al Edwards left us three years ago.  Rep. Edwards was the individual who first brought Juneteenth to my attention. Growing up, we weren’t taught about Juneteenth in school.  I learned about it from Al Edwards.

Al Edwards is Mr. Juneteenth in my book.  That is his legacy.

Some Texas GOP legislators and their staff are learning that Gov. Greg Abbott is a petty and immature arsehole. The arsehole went on a veto spree this past week.

Bob Aspromonte is 86 today. Aspromonte was leadoff batter and starting third baseman on the Colt 45s Opening Day lineup in 1962.  He played in MLB from 1956-1971 with the Dodgers, Astros, The ATL, and the Mets. He was with us from 1962-68.  After his MLB playing days, Aspromonte owned the local Coors beer distributorship. He still lives in H-Town. Happy Birthday, Bob Aspromonte!

My nephew David and his son, Jackson, sat in my seats yesterday. During the game, Reds right fielder Will Benson chased a foul ball and fell onto the screen and nearly fell into Jackson’s lap.

We got swept by the Reds this weekend. The Mets and Justin Verlander are in town for three. I am guessing Dusty will present Justin with his 2022 World Series Championship ring this evening.

We are not playing good baseball these days.
