Second Most Liberal

Mark P. Jones, the Political Science Fellow at Rice University’s James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy, came out with his biannual ranking of Texas State House members.  Commentary’s good friend and client, State Rep. Christina Morales is the second most liberal member of the Texas House.  Way cool.  She represents one of the most liberal districts in the Texas House. Christina is also my state representative. Congrats.

Here is the Texas Trib article with the rating which also explains the methodology: Analysis: The 2023 Texas House, from right to left | The Texas Tribune.

The featured picture is from the night Rep. Morales was elected in a special election runoff back in 2019.

Commentary is not a Hunter Biden fan. I wish he would move to some remote part of the earth and stay there for around a decade or so. Talk about cashing in on the family name. He is President Joe Biden’s political baggage for sure heading into 2024.

The Chron E-Board has a very good take on the Harris County Uplift Harris guaranteed income pilot program. Here is the beginning of the take:

Harris County commissioners recently voted to approve a program that will give certain low-income people a $500 check every month for 18 months — with basically no strings attached. No work requirement. No need to prove that the money goes to something worthy, such as child care or rent or food. No need to part with a kidney or plasma. Just. Money.

Naturally, lots of Harris County taxpayers were gobsmacked. This is how we’re spending precious public dollars?

We’re not entirely sold on it, either. But research so far is promising, and we think it’s an idea worth trying, one that could give hundreds of low-income people a better shot at clawing their way out of poverty.

Here is the entire take:  Harris County’s $500 handout could also be a hand up (Editorial) (houstonchronicle.com).

We are not a very good team. We are in third place in the AL West. 6 ½ games behind the Rangers. We are on pace to win 86 games. In 8 games we will reach the halfway point of the season. Come on, guys!
