Application

Folks know that Commentary votes by mail. I qualify. It is convenient. You can track your ballot. On lengthy ballots like ours in Harris County, you have the time to research all the candidates. If you are working on a campaign, you pretty much know when the ballots are sent out.

I filled out and mailed in my 2024 annual application the first week of this year. I checked my qualification reason. I put in for an annual ballot and I marked the Democratic Party Primary and runoff. I checked the status online and it has been received.

Yesterday, I got an application from the Cong. Sheila Jackson Lee for Congress campaign. See the featured photo.  The problem with the SJL application is it is not pre-filled out. Usually, when a campaign sends out an application, most of the voter’s info is already preprinted on the application. The voter’s name and address, reason for voting for mail – the 65 years or older box, where to send it, the annual application, and political party primary and runoff. All the voter is required to do is sign, put in your state ID number, the last four digits of the SSN, put a stamp on it, and mail it.  The more sophisticated campaigns will pay the postage and barcode it to track to see if it is submitted.

The SJL application falls short. It probably would have been cheaper to prefill it out. Oh, well.

I guess I will watch the New Hampshire results this evening.  The polls are showing Donald Trump with a 20-point lead there. We will see.

I saw this tweet on the two-bit punkarse Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis

Miami Herald on Ron DeSantis: “It’s not just that he was steamrolled by Donald Trump, DeSantis never appeared to want to save the GOP. He was more interested in making it a more ravenous, angrier, and intolerant party. That worked for Trump but didn’t work for the governor with all the charisma of burned toast.”

Burned toast. That is way too funny.

The Texans opponents for 2024 were announced yesterday. We face our AFC South foes the Colts, Jaguars, and Titans twice. Then we go against the Bears, Bills, Chiefs, Cowboys, Dolphins, Jets, Lions, Packers, Patriots, Ravens, and Vikings.

We won’t know where and when until later this year. Got it?

New Astros reliever Josh Hader met his wife in Corpus Christi when he was playing for the Hooks. Her name is Maria Macias, and she is a Corpus Christi native. I guess she is a Latina. Go online and check their photos together. Now you know.

Hader made it pretty clear at yesterday’s press conference that he wanted to be an Astro because of the winning culture they have over at The Yard. That is a big selling point.

Hader also said he and his wife want to be a part of the H-Town community and give back. Good for him and his wife.

Welcome to H-Town, Maria and Josh!
