Allred Ad

This was posted yesterday:

The UH Alumni Association is proud to announce that it will be honoring State Senator Carol Alvarado (’92 MBA ’08) as the recipient for the Distinguished Alumni Award for its 69th Annual Alumni Awards in April 2024.

Alvarado serves as senator for District 6 in Harris County and was first elected in a 2018 special election. An active advocate for both women’s health and reproductive rights and voting rights, Alvarado has passed legislation to assist victims of sexual abuse and ensure access to the ballot.

This award acknowledges not only her remarkable professional achievements but also the credit she brings to the University of Houston. Well done!

Congratulations, Senator!

This morning, on the KPRC-TV Channel 2 early news, I was introduced to a Cong. Colin Allred ad for U.S. Senate. It is a good introductory ad that among other things, takes on the abortion issue. See the featured photo.

Here is from the Chron:

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Colin Allred is launching his first television ads of the election cycle as he struggles to pull away from a crowded field of Democrats vying to take on U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, despite far outpacing competitors in fundraising.

The ads are set to air in Houston and Dallas, Democratic strongholds that will be crucial in deciding the winner of the March 5 primary. The spots are aimed at introducing the two-term congressman and former NFL player to voters, many of whom polling shows are still unfamiliar with him or unsure of who they will support. The winner of the primary will face Cruz, who is seen as one of the few potentially vulnerable Republicans in the Senate after winning reelection in 2018 by less than 3 percentage points.

The ads are largely biographical, with Allred introducing himself as a native Texan and son of a public school teacher who earned a football scholarship to Baylor University and played in the NFL before going to law school and working as a civil rights attorney.

Here is the entire Chron story: Exclusive: Allred launches first TV ads in bid to take on Ted Cruz (houstonchronicle.com)

The ad has run a few times this morning.

FYI: The folks who created the Mayor John Whitmire campaign ads are the same folks who are creating the Allred ads. Thematic Campaigns. Now you know.

Thanks to Donald Trump, the GOP shed its law-and-order mantra awhile back. Some GOPers are calling for arsehole Gov. Greg Abbott to defy the U.S. Supreme Court on the razor wire ruling. How un-American is that.
